Community organizing is a key component of the work of many nonprofits. However, this sort of mobilization doesn’t come without costs, even if only for paying someone to reach out for volunteers. 

There are many nonprofits grants that are based around supporting community organizing. These grants can be used for a wide variety of purposes, including leadership development for local leaders, funding grassroots campaigns and voter education initiatives. 

There are a wide range of organizations that provide community organizing grants, including many private foundations. Examples of these include the Ford Foundation, the Open Society Foundations, the  Unitarian Universalist Funding Program and the Surdna Foundation. 

When drafting a community organization grant proposal, it’s essential to tell a clear story about how you will use said community organization to tackle a specific issue. If you can bring up past examples of your nonprofit accomplishing this, all the better.
