Mental illness consists of a variety of overlapping epidemics in the United States. It is estimated that 1 in 5 American adults struggle with some kind of mental illness each year - many of those will have suicidal thoughts or crisis moments. There are many nonprofits that have made it their mission to support crisis intervention efforts. These nonprofits are only able to continue their good work, of course, thanks to the generous funding provided by crisis intervention grants.

These grants can be used for all sorts of purposes. This could include setting up crisis hotlines and response units, establishing emergency shelters and transitional housing or funding counseling and victim services. There are many different organizations that might provide these kinds of grants. Traditionally this included federal agencies, but also includes many different private foundations. 

When drafting a crisis intervention grant proposal, it's essential to use relevant data to back up your claims. You need to prove that there is a significant need that your nonprofit is uniquely positioned to address. Relevant data could be rates of mental health crises in your chosen community - but could also include demographic information on risk factors such as homelessness or domestic violence. Places that you can start looking for this kind of data could include the CDC.
