Many have taken a relatively peaceful world for granted. However, as the old alliances and systems that enforced that peace are being dismantled, we seem to be heading for a far more unstable world. There are many nonprofits that are doing their best to fight against this rising tide, by trying to foster peace and security wherever possible.

These nonprofits are only able to do their good work thanks to the generous funding from grants. Peace grants can be used for a wide range of purposes, including funding conflict resolution initiatives, disarmament, violence prevention and human rights advocacy. 

There are a variety of organizations that provide these kinds of grants. These traditionally included federal agencies, such as the United States Institute of Peace, as well as private foundations such as the MacArthur Foundation and the Peace and Security Funders Group. 

When drafting a peace grant proposal, it's important to back up your arguments with data. You need to demonstrate there is a real need that your nonprofit is in position to address. Examples of relevant data could include rates of violence in certain conflict zones, and local community needs when it comes to security. Good places to get started collecting this data can include the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute and the World Bank.
