The sciences are responsible for much of the higher quality of life that we enjoy today compared to our ancestors. However, advancements in the STEM fields or social sciences do not come cheap. Science requires rigorous and constant testing and exploration. There are many nonprofits who dream of an even brighter future, and make it their mission to support scientific inquiry in a variety of forms. These nonprofits are only able to do this essential work via the generous donations provided by science grants.

These grants empower a wide range of processes and programs. These could include laboratory research of field studies. They could also include educational programs designed at nurturing the next generation of scientists, through educational and community outreach programs.

Science grants can come from a wide range of sources. These could include federal agencies such as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. There are also a wide range of private foundations and corporate sponsorship programs that seek to help push forward essential scientific research.

When preparing a science grant proposal, it’s important to both focus on the upfront data, and the long term potential benefits. If you are focusing on science education, you will want to collect information on STEM education metrics. If you are more focused on research, you will want to collect data regarding funding gaps - but also tell a compelling story about the benefits and accomplishments your research can provide over time.
