There’s a reason why some forms of sports have been popular all over the globe, for all periods of time. Sports are how we get exercise, keep active and build a sense of community. All of these are especially essential for youth, sport being an excellent way to combat both health issues in youth, as well as loneliness.

There are many nonprofits dedicated to helping support sports related initiatives. They’re only able to do this, of course, through the funding provided by sports grants. These grants can be used for a wide array of purposes. These could include, among many others, the construction or renovation of sports facilities, the purchase or renting of essential equipment, the payment of coaches or trainers, and the organization of community sporting events. These grants can go towards general education as well, such as school programs that promote a healthy lifestyle.

Sports grants can come from many sources. These can include federal and state agencies or private foundations. Often, they’ll come from local community foundations, and it can be worthwhile for a nonprofit in this space to build close relationships with these foundations.

When applying for sports grants, it's important to use data to highlight the potential impact of your sports initiatives. Statistics you may want to pull up for your area include youth sports participation, the local rates of physical activity, or community health challenges (such as obesity) that are linked to lack of physical activity.
