Grants Advance Collaborations Expanding Student Supports
National Partnership for Student Success: Community Collaboration Challenge

Application deadline: November 15, 2024
Grant amount: $5,000 to $10,000
Description: The National Partnership for Student Success (NPSS) Community Collaboration Challenge supports collaborations to scale, expand, or pilot evidence-based, people-powered student supports in communities across the country. The Challenge seeks to connect schools and districts with local organizations that provide high-quality tutors, mentors, student success coaches, wraparound and integrated student support coordinators, and post-secondary transition coaches in their communities. Preference will be given to applicants addressing chronic absenteeism in their communities and applicants engaging high school students in NPSS-aligned roles (e.g., high school students supporting their younger peers as tutors, mentors, etc.). Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, school districts, city or state agencies, and higher education institutions. Both local and state-level collaborations will be supported.

Marketing to Increase Environmental Awareness Funded
Temper of the Times Foundation

Application deadline: December 15, annually
Grant amount: Typically $5,000 to $15,000
Description: The Temper of the Times Foundation promotes the use of standard marketing concepts to increase awareness about wildland conservation and restoration initiatives in the United States. Recognizing that organizations working to protect the environment in general have limited access to paid media, the Foundation provides funds to underwrite advertising designed to promote the conservation and restoration of native wildlife, plants, and ecosystems anywhere in the U.S. The Foundation also supports earned media campaigns and other efforts to communicate about conservation and restoration initiatives and actions. Grants may be used to fund the production of print, radio, or television ads; pay for advertising space or airtime; or produce or distribute pamphlets, books, videos, or press packets.

Matching Grants Facilitate Community Reading Programs
NEA Big Read

Application deadline: January 23, 2025, for intents to apply, and January 30, 2025, for applications
Geographic scope: United States, including U.S. territories
Grant amount: $5,000 to $20,000
Description: NEA Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, is a national program that offers matching grants of up to $20,000 to support community-wide reading programs in the United States. The grant helps bring communities together around the shared activity of reading and discussing the same book. Each applicant organization selects one of 22 available books from the NEA Big Read library; engages with community partners to develop, conduct, and promote engaging literary and artistic programs that illuminate the book and theme; and offers events and activities related to the theme and chosen book. The theme for the 2025-26 cycle is “Our Nature: How Our Physical Environment Can Lead Us to Seek Hope, Courage, and Connection.” Nonprofit arts organizations, universities, libraries, service organizations, museums, school districts, and tribal governments are eligible to apply.

Support Targets Impactful Early-Stage Nonprofits
Smart Family Fund

Application deadline: None
Grant amount: $25,000 to $100,000
Description: The Smart Family Fund’s mission is to discover, support, and mentor emerging U.S. nonprofit organizations and their leaders, providing the necessary backing to help them succeed. The Fund focuses on early-stage nonprofit ventures that have the potential to make a significant impact on the world, but that have yet to demonstrate the efficacy needed to acquire large-scale funding. Early-stage, U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply. Applicants must be able to clearly articulate how they will demonstrate the efficacy of the intervention, quantify the potential positive impact in the world, and communicate how the organization is differentiated and better than other ecosystem players.

Funds Seek to Improve Health in Company Service Area
CareSource Foundation

Application deadline: None
Geographic scope: Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Michigan
Description: The CareSource Foundation funds programs that improve health outcomes and conditions for low-income, underserved populations in states where CareSource does business, including Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Michigan. The Foundation focuses on the following priority areas: supporting health education and promoting healthy habits; improving maternal, infant, and child health; 21st century workforce development; and neighborhood and downtown redevelopment in Dayton, OH. Pilots and partnerships with local and national nonprofits that align with the focus areas and foster learning and innovation are particularly of interest. The Foundation seeks to support organizations that deploy innovative solutions, address root problems, engage the community voice in the solution, and aim for meaningful improvements to health and wellness.

Services for Vulnerable Populations Supported in NM, OK, and TX
The Carl C. Anderson Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation

Application deadline: None
Geographic scope: New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas
Grant amount: Typically $5,000 to $20,000
Description: The Carl C. Anderson Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Preference is given to nonprofits serving rural counties in all three states, and funding is not provided to organizations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston, TX, areas. The Foundation supports organizations serving low-income and vulnerable populations in three mission areas: basic and essential needs of children and youth, services that improve or enhance the quality of life for older adults, and services that improve or enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities. Both general operating support and funds for specific programs are provided. Applicants that have never before received a grant from the Foundation should first send a brief introductory email.

Grants Enhance Social Justice Organizing in New England
Haymarket People’s Fund

Application deadline: The 2024-2025 Sustaining Grant deadline is December 4, 2024. Urgent Response Grants are accepted on a rolling basis, as long as funds are available.
Geographic scope: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont
Grant amount: Sustaining Grants range up to $20,000; Urgent Response Grants range up to $5,000.
Description: Haymarket People’s Fund provides grants for anti-racist and social justice organizing work in the New England region. Haymarket is committed to supporting both urban and rural organizing across the region and funding start-up and emerging organizations as well as groups with a long history of grassroots organizing. Sustaining Grants support grassroots, social change organizations engaging in community organizing efforts that are led by those most affected by injustice, focus on the root causes of the problems and changing the institutions and structures of power that keep injustice in place, have anti-racist and anti-oppression values and practices, and demonstrate a commitment to movement building. Both general operating support and project work are supported. Urgent Response Grants help grassroots, social change organizations respond quickly to unforeseen crises or opportunities that critically affect their organization and constituency, including unexpected events, political crises, or organizing opportunities. Applicants do not have to have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS or a fiscal sponsor in order to apply.

Support Available for Efforts Benefiting Coloradans
El Pomar Foundation

Application deadline: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed quarterly.
Geographic scope: Colorado
Description: The El Pomar Foundation seeks to enhance and promote the current and future well-being of the people of Colorado. Through a competitive grants process, the Foundation provides support to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and government entities that serve Colorado across a broad spectrum of focus areas, including arts and culture, civic and community, education, health, and human services. Grants are provided for general operating support, programs, and capital projects. The Foundation also provides support through individual funds targeting specific geographic or interest areas, including animal welfare issues, equine rescue and care and therapeutic riding programs, and the emergency needs of volunteer firefighting agencies and first responders throughout Colorado, as well as a fund focused on the Pikes Peak region.

Description: The purpose of the Partnership for National Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Leadership program is to support national organizations in building the capacity of state MCH programs, urban MCH programs, Healthy Start programs, and maternal, infant, and early childhood home visiting programs to achieve the long-term goal to improve national MCH health outcomes and reduce associated disparities by better serving specific populations and awardees.

Program Preserves Historic Properties and Collections
Department of the Interior

Application deadline: December 12, 2024
Description: The Save America’s Treasures program from the Historic Preservation Fund provides grants for preservation or conservation work on nationally significant properties and collections through two types of grants: preservation and collection grants. Work to historic districts, buildings, sites, structures, and objects will be funded through preservation grants, and collection grants support conservation work on nationally significant collections, including artifacts, museum collections, documents, sculptures, and other works of art.
